Starting my journey around the world with Africa, 1999/2001

One night before taking off, my friend and I had a farewell party. Instead of wishing me luck, many of them focused my attention to the danger of such an undertaking: Once around the world! After that party I had the worst night of my life, but I could step back from my book flight and just had to go.

First, I flew from From Berlin Tegel to London Heathrow and then - with one hour delay due to technical problems - to Capetown. Stepping on the ground of Africa turned of the fear I had before and was replaces by excitement.

After a few mainly foggy days in Capetown I went on to Johannesburg with several day tours. My next step was Harare in Zimbabwe, where I met some people to lease a car and travel around Zimbabwe for a few days. Before taking of to Asia, I had one more night in Johannesburg.
